Join us in Torquay on Tuesday March 25th for a panel discussion hosted by Sarah Mansfield MLC. Hear about how our environment is affecting our health as we ask the question: how can we stay healthy as the climate changes? (While still fighting to prevent further climate change of course!)
Who will we hear from?
Seung Baek from Doctors for the Environment
Seung is a rural GP based in ColacĀ and deputy chair of the Victorian Committee of Doctors for the Environment Australia. He is focused on how we can collectively stop breaching planetary boundaries and how we can live well together within the safe operating space for humanity.
Tim Adams from Geelong Sustainability‘s Climate Safe Rooms project
Tim has 49 years of Building Design experience, specializing in high-performance houses and sustainability consulting. Moving to the Surf Coast in 2008, Tim has lived in The House with No Bills since then.
Ivan Blacket from the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance
Ivan is a farmer, educator and consultant with a focus on integrated regenerative food production systems. He has developed food systems at The Farm at Byron Bay, Conscious Ground and Common Ground Project, and educated hundreds of aspiring farmers and homesteaders in the process. He is also currently on the national committee for the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance and a facilitator with Permaculture for Refugees.
Dr Tim Read, Member for Brunswick
Before becoming an MP, Tim completed a PhD while working as a doctor in a public HIV and sexual health clinic. His research included HIV prevention and treatment and how best to treat antibiotic-resistant sexually transmitted infections. Tim strongly believes that the solution to these problems lies in addressing these problems as public health issues rather than the failed punitive responses
What will we come away with? Learn about the relationship between climate and health, how climate change is affecting our communities, initiatives to support those in the community most vulnerable to climate change, learn about what legislative changes need to take place to support healthcare in regional and rural communities, and come away with actionable tools to support yourself and others as we traverse through the climate crisis together.
Note: this is a free, accessible event. We’ll bring the good food and conversation; you bring your curiosity and passion.
We can’t wait to see you there.
