Sarah Mansfield Greens MLC for Western Victoria

I’m proud to be your representative

The needs and challenges facing regional and rural communities have been overlooked for far too long. As the Greens’ first regional MP and as Co-Deputy Leader, I will fight for the changes our communities need.

I’m proud to represent you in State Parliament, and I’m committed to making a real difference to the lives of people in our region, with better access to healthcare, housing people can actually afford and urgent action on climate change.

What I’m fighting for

“Western Victoria now has a strong, Green, representative in State Parliament, fighting for action on climate change and what people in the regions need.”

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Sarah

I live in Geelong, on Wadawurrung Country, with my young family.

As a GP, I spent time working with people who were homeless. This experience highlighted the failure of our social and political systems, being lived by people struggling in our communities every day.

It was what motivated me to serve on local council before having the great privilege of becoming your first Greens State MP.

I hear regularly from constituents who are struggling to make ends meet in Western Victoria. Their stories make it clear that too often, access to housing, affordable food and healthcare is determined by your postcode and income rather than by need. This has to change.

I’m committed to bringing the voices of regional and rural communities to our State Parliament. I’d love to hear what matters most to you and what you want to see change for the better in Western Victoria.

Launched! Fantastic to join the @ballaratgreens for their council campaign launch. We heard the stories of the brilliant candidates running for Ballarat City Council and Hepburn Shire Council - it’s wonderful to have people so deeply committed to making things better for people and the environment putting their hands up. @belindacoates_ballarat and @timdryliecreswick have shown what a difference it even one Green on council can make - let’s get them re-elected AND let’s get them some new buddies - @ellenburns_ballarat, Gabrielle Salkowski, Maegan Boundey, and Adrik Wright. As the Greens’ first Regional MP, I’ve had the pleasure of cups of tea and farm tours with people who proudly produce the food that we buy from supermarkets and too often take for granted.

Farmers are also on the front line of the climate crisis, and yet their voices are not always considered when it comes to how we respond. They are critical partners in the struggle for a safe and secure climate, and the government must ensure they have a genuine seat at the table.

The so-called ‘reform’ of the Torquay and Armstrong Creek Bus Strategy has been nothing but a disappointment.

Last week, I asked the Minister what they were going to see through their commitment to provide better public services for the people of Torquay and surrounds. Our regional centres need more public transport, not less.

Another HUGE win for the Greens - this time for our oceans, and our climate. This inquiry will put the fossil fuel giants on notice, and send a clear message that our oceans aren’t a dumping ground for their leaky, corroding oil and gas infrastructure.

A HUGE win today for renters! After months of negotiations with the Government, the Greens have secured new laws to stop investors from hoarding homes for profit

These new regulations will deter investors from buying up beach houses to rent out on Air BnB, and instead provide long-term rentals to teachers, students, families and hospitality workers who want, and need, a place to call home. It will give power back to councils, and empower them to ban or limit short-stay accommodation.

We know pressure works. That’s why the Greens will keep fighting for renters and first-home buyers.

So good to catch up with these legends at Green drinks tonight! Three of our council candidates for the City of Greater Geelong popped by for a chat - @emilieflynn.geelong (Kardinia Ward) @joey_nicita (Hamlyn Heights Ward) and Izzy Scherrer (Deakin Ward). Loved hearing about their campaigns - they’ve all been out and about, door knocking, joining local events, and having great conversations with their communities. Want to help them get elected? Head to links in bio to volunteer or donate to their campaigns.

Last week, the Greens supported an inquiry into Ambulance Services in Victoria. In the lead-up to the debate in parliament, I heard from many first responders who love helping patients, but unsafe working conditions and chronically poor system management are leading to low morale.

To fix health services, we need a holistic view of how Victorians access and use health services - it starts with preventing people from getting sick and needing hospital in the first place, which is something that no government is serious about prioritising. We also need to value and support our emergency service workers, from paramedics to call takers and the hospital staff who care for us in our time of need.
